An NHS trust in north-east England recorded 885 verbal abuse incidents against staff last year, up 14%.
Two community nurses in Washington, Tyne and Wear, have said abuse from patients has massively increased in five years, the BBC reports.
South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust recorded 2,341 security incidents between April 2025 and March 2026, including 885 involving verbal abuse and 530 physical attacks.
The trust has set up a dedicated team to tackle abuse against staff.
