UNICEF says children are bearing the heaviest burden in a city where 26,000 people face catastrophic hunger.
Children have been killed and injured in renewed fighting in Baidoa, in Somalia’s South West State, UN agencies said.
Clashes have broken out between government forces and fighters loyal to the former regional president, ousted in March. A health facility has been damaged.
Two million children across Somalia are acutely or severely malnourished. In Baidoa alone, 26,000 people face catastrophic food insecurity. UNICEF called for protection of schools and health facilities.
