Hundreds of British personnel have trained with allies from the UK-led Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) in Exercise Lion Protector 26 across the North Atlantic, High North and Baltic Sea, the Ministry of Defence said.
Protecting infrastructure
The exercise focused on protecting critical infrastructure such as undersea data cables and energy links and countering Russian hybrid threats. Royal Marines carried out the first exercise in the Faroe Islands since the Second World War.
Ministers meet
The Defence Secretary met JEF counterparts at a summit in Keflavik, Iceland, attended by Canada and Ukraine, where Canada’s application to join the JEF framework was discussed. The North Atlantic routes are of particular importance to Scotland, home to key naval bases.
