Highland Council planners are recommending that councillors raise no objection to the Glen Earrach pumped storage hydro scheme on Loch Ness, the Inverness Courier reports. The south planning committee meets on Wednesday 7 October.
How it would work
The scheme, proposed by Glen Earrach Limited, would sit on the Balmaccan Estate between Drumnadrochit and Invermoriston. Water would move between an upper reservoir at Loch nam Breac Dearga and Loch Ness, with an average height difference of about 480 metres.
Access and design
Main access would be from the Forestry and Land Scotland Balnain car park exit on the A831, about 6km west of Drumnadrochit. The report notes final design details could change.
Decision-making
Large energy projects are decided by Scottish ministers; the council is a consultee.
