Glasgow City Council has approved a masterplan to transform the North Laurieston area, BBC News reported.

What is planned

Historic buildings, including listed properties on Carlton Place, would be brought back into use, with the council able to use statutory powers if necessary. Vacant and underused land would be redeveloped for housing, and connections to the city centre and Tradeston improved.

Infrastructure first

The council says early stages will focus on infrastructure. The plan was developed by New Gorbals Housing Association, the council and Elder & Cannon Architects and consulted on in summer 2026.

Council view

Depute leader Ruairi Kelly described the area as a unique part of Glasgow with outstanding heritage buildings and great potential.
