The former Municipal Buildings on Kildonan Street in Coatbridge are being transformed into 43 council homes for rent, Scottish Housing News reports.

A landmark building

The Grade B listed building was built in 1894 as headquarters of the Burgh of Coatbridge. Part was destroyed by fire in 1967 and a four-storey wing added in 1991. It was used as council offices until 2022.

The scheme

Plans include 43 homes, a residents’ amenity area, parking with electric vehicle charging, and bike and bin storage. The former council chambers will be kept as commercial and touchdown office space. Part of the former police wing will be demolished, with its Muiryhall Street façade retained.
